EE has been a part of the BT Group since 2016 and it operates the UK's largest mobile network, offering its customers both 4G and 5G in more locations than any other UK network. Although EE is better known for its provision of 4G and 5G mobile network, the company is also a major provider of home broadband in the UK.

What Can EE Offer You?
Types of EE Broadband Packages
As EE is a part of the BT Group, it's likely that you'll spot some similarities between the two services. For example, both broadband providers use the exact same underlying network and the same connection into your home to provide you with your broadband package. EE and BT also have fairly similar features. An example of this is EE's Smart Wi-Fi service being quite similar to BT's Complete Wi-Fi service.
EE, akin to BT, also has a wide range of broadband packages with varying speeds:
- Standard Broadband - 10Mbps
- Fibre Broadband - 36Mbps
- Fibre Plus Broadband - 67Mbps
- Fibre Max 100 Broadband - 145Mbps
- Fibre Max 500 Broadband - 500Mbps
- Full Fibre Max 900 Broadband - 900 Mbps
EE's Standard Broadband
EE's Standard Broadband is the firm's slowest option as it uses an ADSL (copper cable) connection that provides customers with average download speeds of 10Mbps. EE states that its standard broadband package is u201cbest for keeping small households connectedu201d. This package comes at a cost of £27 per month but EE pay monthly mobile customers will be able to get it at £24 per month.
This broadband package also comes with a mobile data boost of 5GB if you already have an eligible EE mobile plan.
Standard broadband users will be provided with an EE Bright Box 1 Router, which is more than enough for small households that don't use the internet a great deal or have many devices that are used simultaneously. However, if you'd like to, you can upgrade the EE Bright Box 1 Router to an EE Smart Router and Disc for an extra £10 a month.
Fibre Broadband
If you're searching for a broadband package that still comes with a reasonable price but a faster connection than EE's standard broadband package, EE offers the Fibre Broadband plan with average download speeds of 36Mbps. This package also comes with average upload speeds of approximately 9Mbps (which is sufficient for gaming online).
EE's Fibre Broadband plan is very suitable for small households that use the internet quite frequently throughout each day. With this package you can browse the internet on many devices at the same time as well as streaming HD-quality video on multiple devices.
Fibre Plus Broadband
Fibre Plus offers speeds that are more than 6x faster than EE's Standard Broadband plan at average download speeds of 67Mbps as well as average upload speeds of 18Mbps. EE says that this package is excellent for gaming, streaming and downloading large files all at the same time on multiple devices.
As with the Fibre Broadband deal above, customers will also receive a 20G mobile data boost if they have a 5G phone that is on contract via EE. If you do not have a 5G phone but have any other eligible Pay Monthly plan, you will still receive a 5G mobile data boost.
Fibre Max Broadband
With Fibre Max broadband, you have the choice of three different packages:
- Fibre Max 100 isn't cheap but still remains an excellent service as you'll be provided with average download speeds of 145Mbps along with upload speeds of 28Mbps. This package is available at both Gfast and FTTP (fibre-to-the-premises) addresses.
- Fibre Max 500 has average download speeds of 500Mbps and average upload speeds of 110Mbps. This plan is only available at addresses with a FTTP connection.
- Full Fibre Max 900 comes with ultrafast download speeds of 900Mbps as well as upload speeds of 110Mbps. Similar to the Fibre Max 500 plan, this is only available at properties with full-fibre connection.
Why Pick EE Broadband?
Enhance Your Mobile Data
If you're already an EE mobile customer with a pay-monthly subscription, EE will provide you with an additional 5GB of mobile data after you've signed up with EE for a fibre broadband plan. If you're able to get the ultrafast Fibre Max 900 plan, you'll receive an extra 20GB of mobile data.
Good Customer Service
If you're interested in purchasing an EE broadband package, you'll be happy to know that EE's customer service is often rated very highly. Ofcom, in 2020, found that 88% of EE's customers were satisfied with the ISPs overall service.
Add-Ons
Although EE TV is a thing of the past, EE is now offering various broadband bundles with Apple TV 4K, with BT Sport included. This is a huge benefit to customers as Apple TV 4K provides full access to apps such as ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer along with the biggest streaming services Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Norton Security Premium
As an EE broadband customer, you'll have access to Norton Security Premium which can be used on up to 10 devices. This gives you antivirus software that you can use on a PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet. It also comes with 25GB of cloud storage for backing up files online.
If you're using Norton Security Premium on an Android device, you'll also get mobile device protection. This allows you to remotely locate your mobile phone and to wipe all of the information on it, if you believe it to have been stolen.
Your subscription to Norton Security Premium lasts for 12 full months and is worth £79.99. After the first year, it will automatically renew at a discounted price of £39.99 for the second year. Unless you cancel the subscription before its automatic renewal date.
EE Broadband FAQs
Are EE routers included in their broadband packages?
All of EE's home broadband packages come with a free router. For standard ADSL broadband users, this will be an EE Bright Box router which allows you to connect all your devices to the internet via Wi-Fi connection or a wired Ethernet cable. This router is fairly basic but it should be more than enough for those who simply wish to browse the internet and stream occasionally.
The EE Smart Hub is the router provided to you when you purchase a fibre broadband deal and it is twice as powerful as the company's previous router and is designed to handle multiple devices at once. It's easy to install by yourself and therefore there's no need for an engineer (unless you need to get a phone line installed).
It offers a range of management options to ensure you stay in control of your home broadband. All you have to do is log into the hub on your laptop or mobile device, and you can see who's currently connected to it and how much data they're using. You can even switch off access at certain times for specific devices, this can be useful for parents wishing to limit their children's screen time.
If you're signing up to a 4GEE mobile broadband plan, a router may cost a few extra pounds. A 4GEE home router or 4GEE Wi-Fi Mini deal will come with a free router for some fixed-term 18 or 24-month contracts, but if you decide to opt for a rolling one-month deal or certain data plans, you will have to pay for the router upfront.
